The beautiful thing about Stoic philosophy is the advice contained within it is just as applicable today as it was when it was first written all those many years ago. We can learn a great deal from interpreting the advice provided and using it to our advantage as we go throughout our own lives.
Today’s quote comes to us courtesy of Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, III.9:
Quote
“Reverence the faculty which produces opinion. On this faculty it entirely depends whether there shall exist in thy ruling part any opinion inconsistent with nature and the constitution of the rational animal. And this faculty promises freedom from hasty judgement, and friendship towards men, and obedience to the gods.”
Advice
Do not rush to judgment. Do not allow circumstances to dictate your interpretation of them. Take a circumstance and observe it objectively. Remember that the world is based on relationships and that it is through these relationships that people, and our community, grow.
