Poverty
The beautiful thing about Stoic philosophy is the advice contained within it is just as applicable today as it was when it was first written all those many years ago. We can learn a great deal from interpreting the advice provided and using it to our advantage as we go throughout our own lives.
Today’s quote comes to us courtesy of Seneca, Moral Letters, letter 18:
Quote
“Let us become intimate with poverty, so that Fortune may not catch us off our guard. We shall be rich with all the more comfort, if we once learn how far poverty is from being a burden.”
Advice
Practice being uncomfortable. Our worst fears are often more horrific than the actual event. If poverty is what you fear, practice living minimally and become comfortable with it. If for whatever reason the circumstance occurs where you are impoverished, you will already have trained yourself on how to handle the situation.
