🦉 Bite-sized Wisdom
“Only that day dawns to which we are awake. There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star.”
Henry David Thoreau

📖 An Example of Wonder
Perhaps one of the clearest examples of wonder at play belongs to one of the greatest minds of the 20th century.
As early as age 16, Albert Einstein imagined real world scenarios and how they could help to describe the world around.
Known Gedankenexperiments, these mental experiments helped Einstein to conceptual complex scenarios with real-world examples.
One of his most famous thought experiments in evolved imaging oneself in an elevator where the cable is cut and the elevator is plunging.
“I was sitting on a chair in my patent office in Bern. Suddenly a thought struck me: If a man falls freely, he would not feel his weight. I was taken aback. This simple thought experiment made a deep impression on me. This led me to the theory of gravity.”
Einstein captured the essence of wonder—a curiosity for the world, constantly thinking and following his curiosity, coming to conclusions and using those to change not only himself but the world.
💭 Thought to Reflect On
From Nico Bunzeck & Emrah Düzel in The Power of Wonder:
"When we see something new, we see it has a potential for rewarding us in some way. This potential that lies in new things motivates us to explore our environment for rewards."
